The Results Are In...

Thanks to your help (or, possibly not your help - but someone's help), Ben has won a family pack of tickets to see Star Wars in Concert when it comes to Wichita on May 22. Voting ended this morning, and KSN announced the results this afternoon, with Ben having received the second-highest number of votes. So, although he can't claim to be the biggest nerd - he's pretty darn close!

Happy Birthday David!

David woke up today as a brand new 4-year-old. He was saying "Happy Birthday" all day yesterday in anticipation of the big day. When he went to get breakfast, he was greeted with the sight of his wrapped presents:

He loved all of his gifts, including puzzles, a tow truck, a racing track, and money for college.

His favorite gift, as we learned throughout the day, was a construction set - complete with crane, excavator, dump truck, and more!

After a long day of playing with new toys, David got to see his birthday cake, lovingly crafted by his mother. David thought it was very cool to have a front loader tractor for a cake.

David also overcame three years of trouble with blowing out his candles to do it all by himself this year.

In case you want to see David in action, here is a video of him blowing out his candles:

Analeigh's Two-Year Photos

Back when we took our family photo, we received a coupon for a free session, as part of their apology for making us wait over an hour for our scheduled session. So, two weeks ago, we decided to take the studio up on their offer so we could get Analeigh's two-year-old photos taken. Anyway, below are the two poses we liked best. The first photo is the pose we got for free. We could have gotten away with paying nothing, but Liz loved the second pose so much, she just had to buy it.

Dancing

David decided to take the lead this evening and asked his sister to dance. By "ask," we mean to say that he grabbed her hands and started pulling her around in circles throughout the living room. Fortunately, she seemed happy to participate.

Moving On...

Some of you may be aware that Ben has grown tired of working 60 hours/week (and only getting paid for 40). Ben has been interviewing for other positions for months now. He's looked at jobs across the nation: from Pittsburgh, PA, to Arkansas, and Texas, (to name a few). He even applied in Idaho - yes, Idaho (while Ben has no desire to live there, he recognizes that God has a sense of humor - so he applied there, just in case it was God's will for us). He also looked at other jobs around Kansas.

Just last week Ben accepted a position as a therapist at one of Saint Francis Community Services' youth residential facilities. Yes, he is remaining with the same company as he's currently with - but he gets to do therapy (which he's been wanting to do for awhile) and he'll be working closer to 40 hours/week (allowing him more time with our family).

The job is in Ellsworth, KS. We'll be in the same stake we're currently in, but in a different ward.

An additional benefit of this job is that we're going to be able to afford to buy a house. We recently toured a number of houses and made an offer on one of them - which was accepted just yesterday. So, barring some unforeseen issues during the home inspection, we'll be moving to Ellsworth, KS, sometime in mid-May.

So, as an invitation to friends and family: you're welcome to come out some time to visit. Since we're going to be closer to I-70, you're welcome to crash at our place if you ever happen to be driving across the country.

Once we close on the house and move in, we'll post some pictures. Until then, just know that the place has 4 bedrooms and 1.5 baths, and is much more spacious than our current 2-bedroom duplex.

Stuck!

A couple days ago, we captured a picture of David stuck in a box. We didn't really know what to do with it on our blog, so we waited - until today. Analeigh decided to put her own pyjama bottoms on. Once she put both of her legs down the same hole, we came to the realization that our children put themselves in the most interesting predicaments sometimes!

Liz's New Obsession

Lately, Liz has taken to reading the The House of Winslow Series by Gilbert Morris. It is a generational series following the fictitious Winslow family. They're Christian themed romance novels - so you know they're clean - and everyone's faith ends up stronger in the end. So, if you're looking for something to read, join Liz in reading this series - it'll give her someone to talk about it with.

Easter Morning

When the kids woke in the morning, Easter baskets were hidden throughout the house for them to find. David and Analeigh's were in fairly plain sight, so they got to their toys and candy very quickly.

David received a bubble blowing machine, which he fell in love with instantly.

In addition to the candy she was able to sneak out of David's basket, Analeigh also received a puzzle.

After the baskets had been played with, Ben's sister-in-law, Janet, gathered the kids together to learn about the real meaning of Easter, using 12 plastic Easter eggs containing scripture references and a small symbol, as described here. It was good to get back to the basics and we may decide to steal the idea for future use in our family. Thanks Janet!

Easter Eve

While waiting for the Saturday Morning session of General Conference to begin, David and Analeigh enjoyed playing on their cousins' trampoline.

They also enjoyed the neighborhood's Easter Egg Hunt party. David enjoyed hunting with his Uncle Steven, while Analeigh decided to share her treasure with another girl.

Aside from hunting for eggs, there was also a train ride for the kids (though Analeigh was not a big fan).

The kids also got their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny.

After returning to Steven and Janet's home to watch the Saturday Morning session of General Conference, we had another hunt for eggs in their front yard.

We then watched the Saturday Afternoon session, and followed it up with a trip to Spring Creek Barbeque, which is a delicious restaurant. Steven, Ben, and Ben then went to the Priesthood session of Conference, while the womena and children went home to take care of David, who had eaten too much candy throughout the day.

Driving Down to Dallas

Ben's nephew, who is incidentally named, Ben, and shares the same birth date, recently turned 12. He received the Aaronic Priesthood. As a newly ordained Deacon, he was able to attend the Priesthood Session of General Conference for the first time.

Since Ben had a half-day of work, due to Good Friday, we drove down to Dallas to visit Ben's brother, Steven, and his family. On the drive down, David talked excitedly about getting to see his cousins - especially Nathan, who is close to his same age. They loved playing together.

Analeigh took a little longer to warm up, but her Aunt Janet brought out an amazing castle for her to play with - complete with princesses. Analeigh loved it.

David's cousin has a guinea pig, named George, that David was very excited to play with. We're still working with him to explain that guinea pigs don't say, "oink!"
